Loan method comparison

Choose the structure before comparing lenders

Reducing-balance loan

Often fits: Comparing borrowing by interest charged on the outstanding balance.

Advantages
  • Interest falls as principal is repaid
  • Total cost is easier to compare using an amortisation schedule
Risks
  • Headline rate may look higher than a flat-rate quote
  • Fees can still materially change the cost
What to check in the offer
  • Request the full schedule
  • Ask for effective annual rate and total payable
  • Confirm early-settlement method

Flat-rate loan

Often fits: Only when the total payable is transparent and compared with an effective rate.

Advantages
  • Simple advertised instalment
  • Easy initial calculation
Risks
  • Interest is calculated on original principal, so the effective cost is higher than the same reducing rate
  • Headline rates are easy to miscompare
What to check in the offer
  • Ask for reducing-balance equivalent rate
  • Compare total repayment, not rate alone
  • List every fee

Conventional or Shariah-based finance

Often fits: People choosing between interest-based and approved profit/rental structures.

Advantages
  • Different structures can match personal preference and asset purpose
Risks
  • Labels alone do not show total cost
  • Ownership, profit, rental and early-settlement rules differ
What to check in the offer
  • Request the full contract structure
  • Compare total cash outflow
  • Verify the institution and product with Bangladesh Bank/current authority
Before you sign

Questions the lender should answer in writing

  1. What is the effective annual rate and total payable?
  2. Is the calculation flat or reducing balance?
  3. What are processing, insurance, late and early-settlement charges?
  4. Is this lender/product currently authorised by the regulator?

How WorkHelp handles “best plan” claims

There is no universal best product. Suitability depends on eligibility, objective, time horizon, affordability, dependants and risk. WorkHelp ranks only reviewed public programmes against the answers you provide, never accepts a lender’s advertisement as proof, and links to the authority for final verification.
